PERSONAL

Began playing tennis at age six and decided to concentrate only on tennis at age 14... Born in Milan, Italy and moved to South Africa at one year old...Father, Joop, has his own company and my mother, Catriona, is a bookkeeper in South Africa...Has an older brother, Mark, who went to hotel management school in Switzerland and is now working as head chef of a resort on a tiny island off coast of Mozambique...Speaks English and Afrikaans...Hobbies include watching cricket and rugby along with hockey since his wife Carolyn is from Vancouver...They met in August 2005 at Vancouver Challenger where she worked and they married on Oct. 6, 2007 (he proposed to her in a hot air balloon).

The South African finished in Top 150 for second straight season...Earned his first ATP doubles title in Beijing (w/Fisher), beating Haggard-Lu in final...Went 4-1 in ATP team play and 3-4 in singles...On Challenger circuit in first event of year, was runner-up at Durban (l. to Montcourt) in February and Tallahassee (l. to Tsonga) in April...Also a SF at Yuba City and Vancouver, plus two QF exits...In doubles, won four titles in Lanzarote (w/Bourgeois), Vancouver (w/Fisher), Seoul (w/Lu) and Durban (w/Meffert)...Was also a finalist at Busan (w/Duclos) and Lubbock (w/Reynolds)...Finished No. 81 in doubles.
